Anti-spin system now also available for trailers - 2LINK connectivity system brings sensors into the trailer

Which driver of car and trailer doesn't know this? Small evasive manoeuvres, cross winds on bridges or wind pressure during overtaking can quickly cause a trailer to lurch. AL-KO Vehicle Technology offers an effective solution for this: the AL-KO Trailer Control (ATC) anti-skid system, which quickly and gently brakes the lightweight trailer and puts it back on track. The emergency system has been proven in caravans for over 10 years and has now been installed almost 200,000 times throughout Europe. The ATC is already standard equipment for many caravan manufacturers. Now, commercial trailers can also benefit from this safety technology. Requirements: The weight of the trailer must always be within a specific, clearly defined corridor. This applies, for example, to almost all construction machines on trailers, such as compressors or concrete pumps as well as car lifts, generators, mobile inclined lifts, ladders and trailer cranes. The ATC is also suitable for other special trailers such as food trailers, trailers with construction containers or traffic guidance trailers.

The ATC sensors are designed for a fixed weight range of the trailer, whereby this window should be as small as possible. The various ATC versions are precisely tailored to the actual total weight of the trailer (750 kilograms to 2,800 kilograms). The ATC permanently controls the driving behaviour of the trailer. Sensors detect even the slightest lateral movements and lateral accelerations even before a stabilization program for trailers in the towing vehicle can register the oscillating movement. In critical driving situations that cause the trailer to roll, the ATC control electronics react automatically: If the characteristic oscillation periods and vibration curves occur, the trailer brake is immediately activated by a servomotor and the trailer is gently braked. A braking power of a few seconds is enough to stretch car and trailer and restore safe driving conditions. Since the ATC sits directly on the axle and acts via the brake linkage, no intervention in the overrun device is required. The ATC sensors, the control electronics and the servo motor for the brake intervention are housed in a compact, robust and splash-proof housing. It is permanently mounted on the axle, coupled to the trailer brake and connected to the existing on-board electrical system of the trailer.

The new connectivity system AL-KO 2LINK is a perfect complement to the AL-KO Trailer Control and is now being expanded to include the next sensor. From November 2018, tire pressure can be automatically monitored electronically and displayed directly on the smartphone. After the ATC status indicator and the electronic spirit level for levelling the trailer, this is now the third function that offers even greater safety and comfort when using the trailer.

Optimum tire pressure has a significant influence on fuel economy and tire wear - and above all on driving safety. The new AL-KO tire pressure monitoring system (RDKS) or Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in combination with AL-KO 2LINK offers the possibility to keep an eye on the tire pressure on the smartphone while driving and thus to detect a sudden pressure loss early on. After all, the right tire pressure is the basis for optimal handling during travel.

Being on the road with the right tire pressure at all times offers decisive advantages:

  • Better driving and cornering characteristics
  • Less fuel consumption
  • Less tire wear

The sensor of the AL-KO TPMS can be mounted directly on the rim at the tire dealer instead of a standard valve. The installation of the 2LINK-Box and the teaching-in of the sensors are possible at every trained AL-KO service point and in every AL-KO customer centre. The basis for the transmission is the AL-KO 2LINK-Box. It sends the data of the internal tire pressure sensor to the smartphone via Bluetooth. The tire pressure is displayed in the AL-KO 2LINK app. It can be downloaded free of charge for common Apple and Android smartphones.

The new AL-KO tire pressure monitoring system will be available from November at a price of 129 Euro (plus installation).
